The Benefits of Getting Closer to Allah

Seeking closeness to Allah (Qurb Ilallah) is the ultimate goal of every believer. It is not just about performing rituals, but about developing a deep connection with Allah through dhikr, supplications, and righteous actions. When a person becomes close to Allah, they experience divine peace, protection, guidance, and countless blessings. Below are some of the key benefits of drawing nearer to Allah:

1. Inner Peace and Contentment

Allah says in the Quran:

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”

(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28)

Getting closer to Allah brings a sense of tranquility that worldly pleasures can never provide. No matter the challenges, a person who has a strong relationship with Allah remains calm, patient, and hopeful.

2. Increased Love from Allah

Allah loves those who seek closeness to Him. In a Hadith Qudsi, the Prophet ﷺ said:

“When My servant comes closer to Me through voluntary acts of worship, I love him. When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks Me, I will surely give him, and if he seeks My protection, I will surely protect him.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari: 6502)

This means that when we strive to get closer to Allah, He guides and protects us in all aspects of life.

3. Protection from Sins and Evil

When a person remains engaged in dhikr and supplication, their heart is constantly connected to Allah, making it harder for sins and evil temptations to take over. Allah’s remembrance strengthens taqwa (God-consciousness), which prevents a person from falling into sinful desires.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever remembers Allah much will be protected from Shaytan.”

(Sunan At-Tirmidhi: 2863 – Hasan Sahih)

4. Allah’s Mercy and Forgiveness

The closer we get to Allah, the more mercy and forgiveness we receive. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Allah says: O son of Adam, if you come to Me with sins reaching the clouds of the sky and seek My forgiveness, I will forgive you.”

(Sunan At-Tirmidhi: 3540 – Hasan Sahih)

No matter how many sins we have committed, sincere remembrance of Allah and seeking His forgiveness brings us back under His mercy.

5. Answered Duas and Divine Help

Allah promises in the Quran:

“Call upon Me; I will respond to you.”

(Surah Ghafir 40:60)

When we are close to Allah, our duas (supplications) are more readily accepted. Whether in ease or hardship, Allah listens to those who sincerely turn to Him. He provides solutions, opens doors, and blesses us with what is best.

6. Strength in Difficult Times

Life is filled with tests and hardships, but when we are close to Allah, we develop patience and reliance on Him. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Remember Allah in times of ease, and He will remember you in times of difficulty.”

(Sunan At-Tirmidhi: 2516 – Hasan Sahih)

This means that those who establish a strong connection with Allah during good times will find His support during hardships.

7. A Beautiful Life and a Blissful Hereafter

Allah promises that those who remain close to Him will have a beautiful and fulfilling life in this world and eternal happiness in the Hereafter.

“Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while being a believer, We will surely grant them a good life, and We will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do.”

(Surah An-Nahl 16:97)

Ultimately, the greatest reward of closeness to Allah is Jannah (Paradise), where we will enjoy eternal happiness and the ultimate blessing—seeing Allah Himself.

Final Thoughts

The key to gaining closeness to Allah lies in consistently remembering Him with sincerity. These authentic supplications and adhkar are easy to recite yet hold immense rewards in both this world and the Hereafter. By incorporating these daily, we can strengthen our faith, purify our hearts, and seek the mercy and guidance of Allah.

May Allah grant us the ability to remember Him abundantly and attain His closeness. Ameen!
