Reference:
- Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 5361)
- Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2727)
The Origin and Context
The practice of Tasbeeh Fatimah was gifted to Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). It is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 5361) and Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2727) that Fatimah once approached her father seeking help with household burdens. The Prophet (peace be upon him), instead of granting her material assistance, offered her something far greater: he taught her this dhikr, stating that it was better than a servant and would suffice her needs.
The Glory and Benefits of Tasbeeh Fatimah
1. Spiritual Empowerment
- The act of remembering Allah through Tasbeeh Fatimah strengthens the believer’s connection to their Creator and fosters spiritual growth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
- “Shall I not guide you to something better than a servant? When you go to bed, say: SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 5361; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2727)
This demonstrates the tasbeeh’s spiritual superiority over worldly assistance.
- “Shall I not guide you to something better than a servant? When you go to bed, say: SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times.”
2. Relief from Fatigue and Burdens
- The specific context in which Tasbeeh Fatimah was given supports this benefit. Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) sought help for her physical exhaustion, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered her this tasbeeh, saying it was better than a servant to assist her. This implies that the spiritual strength and peace derived from the tasbeeh would help alleviate her burden and fatigue.
3. Fulfills the Sunnah
- Reciting Tasbeeh Fatimah is directly established as a Sunnah practice of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). By implementing this practice, a believer fulfills the Sunnah, which is a means of earning Allah’s love and pleasure:
- “Say (O Muhammad to mankind): If you (really) love Allah, then follow me, so Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.”
(Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:31)
- “Say (O Muhammad to mankind): If you (really) love Allah, then follow me, so Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.”

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the retreating whisperer who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind, from among jinn and mankind. (An-Nas)Urdu Translation:

Final Thoughts
Reciting authentic duas before sleeping is a powerful way to seek protection, forgiveness, and peace from Allah while following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). These supplications, including Ayat-ul-Kursi, Sayyid-ul-Istighfar, Tasbih Fatimah, and the three Quls, provide spiritual security, strengthen faith, and bring immense rewards. By making these recitations a nightly habit, believers not only earn Allah’s blessings but also cultivate a sense of calmness and reliance on Him. May Allah grant us the ability to incorporate these beautiful supplications into our lives and bless us with peaceful and protected sleep every night.
